Parga Beaches: Sarakiniko Beach
Sarakiniko Beach, one of the most scenic beaches of Parga, Greece, located 12 km far from Parga and provides peaceful escape and crystal clear sea, sand on most of the beach. Gorgeous olive trees forest creates a spectacular landscape of Sarakiniko, perfect for families and couples. It has both small stones and also sand. Even though Sarakiniko beach is less favored as other beaches in Parga, there exist various activities, such as swimming, fishing, renting a pedalo, a canoe, scuba diving and snorkeling.
Sarakiniko beach offers a range of Greek tavernas that offer tasty traditional cuisine. You can find some holiday accomodation options also in the nearby areas.
Based on a legend, Sarakiniko beach attained its name from the pirates Sarakini who suffered a unexpected summertime hurricane and aground in this particular bay. The native people did not identified them, assisted the pirates to repair their boat and invited them to their marriage.
The pirates accepted the invite however they had bad plans: they wanted to kidnap the new bride and rob the habitants. Pirates went to the party and burst with knives in their hands, but people managed to beat them and dropped them outside of the bay which is known presently as “Sarakiniko”. This beach can be reached mainly by water taxi from the port of Parga or by car.
